S.T.A.B.L.E.
Description
This offering is designed to assist the nursery RN (RTs & L&D RNs also) in the stabilization of the critical infant, after resuscitation, until transfer or recovery. The STABLE acronym stands for sugar, temperature, airway, blood pressure, labs, and emotional support.
Course Objectives
- Identify neonates at risk for hypoglycemia.
- Recall ways that infants lose body heat, especially in the delivery room.
- Describe how to evaluate respiratory distress.
- Recall some signs and symptoms of shock.
- List the clinical signs of sepsis.
- Calculate the absolute neutrophil count (ANC) and immature to total (I/T) ratio.
- Relate ways that you can support parents of ill/premature infants.
