Description

This course will provide an overview of the anatomy, physiology, development, and common issues encountered by late pre-term infant. This course compliments the PCEO course Before 39 Weeks.

Course Objectives

  1. Name at least 3 risks for the late preterm infant.
  2. Identify 3 respiratory problems that more commonly affect the late preterm infant.          
  3. List some nursing interventions to prevent hypothermia in the late preterm infant.
  4. Describe risk factors for hypoglycemia in the late preterm infant.
  5. List steps to reduce the risk of complications due to hyperbilirubinemia.
  6. Name some nursing interventions to assist a mother with breastfeeding her late preterm infant.
  7. Describe feeding strategies to aid the late preterm infant.

The Children’s Medical Center (OH-042/6/1/14) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Faculty:Experienced level III NICU RNs and/or neonatal nurse practitioners
Target Audience: Nurses, nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals caring for infants born in the late pre-term period.
