“Every Family Is Different”:
Honoring Cultural Belief’s of Childbearing Families
Description
This course is designed to famliarize perinatal health care providers with a variety of cultural traditions, beliefs and practices. Cultures being discussed at this seminar are African American, Hispanic, and German Baptist.
Course Objectives
- Explain the importance of providing culturally diverse care to patients.
- Describe cultural beliefs and family structure of identified cultures.
- Identify how to modify the nursing care rendered to childbearing families to meet cultural needs.

6.4 for nursing and 6.25 for social work. Mercer County Community Hospital (OBN-004-92-033) has been approved as a provider of continuing education by the Ohio Board of Nursing through the OBN approver unit, Ohio Organization of Nurse Executives (OBN-004-92). The Children’s Medical Center, Dayton is an approved Counselor and Social Worker CPE provider (#RCS090502) by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Work & Marriage and Family Therapist Board.

Target audience: Nurses, social workers and other healthcare professionals working any aspect of maternal/child in a hospital, office or clinic setting.
