Description
This course is designed to develop the leadership and communication skills of charge nurses, team leaders, and even nurse managers. Topics include current trends in nursing and healthcare, increasing safety in the workplace, professional boundary issues, appropriate delegation, interviewing skills, and dealing with conflict.
Course Objectives
- Discuss major trends affecting healthcare today.
- List several ways to make nursing more appealing to the next generation.
- Describe similarities between the aviation and healthcare industries when it comes to teamwork and patient safety.
- Individualize professional communication skills to different situations.
- Discuss appropriate delegation of nursing tasks, being consistent with Ohio’s Nurse Practice Act.
- Discuss professional boundary issues in relation to Ohio’s Nurse Practice Act.
- Apply Servant Leadership Theory to the healthcare environment.
- Implement different conflict resolution methods when dealing with difficult people.
- Describe how to interview for key traits to hire the nurse you really want.
This course fulfills the ongoing requirements from the Ohio Board of Nursing for 1 contact hour of continuing education on Ohio’s Nurse Practice Act.

7.25 (1.25 contact hours in Category A) Miami Valley Hospital and Miami Valley Hospital South Health Center (OH-015/04/01/2011) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91) an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Faculty: Nurses functioning in leadership roles in Region II
Target Audience: RNs working toward or in leadership roles. Much of the content will be applicable for nurses working outside perinatal specialties.
