The Losing Battle
Description
This course will discuss the various types of bariatric surgery, appropriate candidates for these surgeries, the effects of bariatric surgery on future pregnancies, and common post-op issues for these patients. This day will also include case studies and a panel discussion with previous bariatric patients.
Course Objectives
- review anatomy, physiology, and obesity
- describe various types of bariatric surgeries
- identify appropriate candidates for bariatric surgery
- discuss sensitivity issues for the obese and bariatric population
- describe the effects of gastric bypass on subsequent pregnancies and possible complications
- list nutrition guidelines for bariatric patients and recommendations for perinatal care

Maximum Attendance: 15 limited seating
Faculty: Experienced Health Care Professionals such as Bariatric Surgeons, Bariatric Nurse Educators, Obstetric Nurses, and Nutritionists, as well as previous bariatric patients.
Target Audience: RNs, LPNs, and other healthcare professionals who work with these patients in the office, clinic, or hospital setting.
