Description
This course is designed to cover a variety of influences that women may experience during pregnancy and beyond. The course is designed to cover the beneficial uses of herbs in pregnancy, delivery, postpartum and breastfeeding. The course will also discuss substance abuse during pregnancy, the implication for the mother and newborn. Treatment options for the mother will also be reviewed. The course will also discuss the role of domestic violence and adoption.
Course Objectives
- Discuss identification, management and treatment options of perinatal substance abuse for the pregnant mother and neonate.
- Describe the dynamics of domestic violence and how the health care providers can assist domestic violence victims.
- Identify common herbs and risks/benefits used in pregnancy and lactation.
- Discuss how to integrate standard of hospital care with the current trends in adoption and balance client choice, confidentiality, patient care and medical information.
